Events are set in motion when God and Devil try to settle a bet whether this man (Will) can be corrupted, which turns out to be much easier than they thought, as it becomes clear that the self-righteous Will is a phony as he greedily jumps at the chance to increase his carnal pleasures and indulge in sexual debauchery.
