Mark Lupino

Acting

Born: January 23, 1889

Birthplace: Shoreditch, London, England, UK

Mark Lupino was an actor and comedian, known for his roles in 'The King's Highway' (1927), 'Pop' (1927) and 'Tallyman' (1928). A member of the inflamous Lupino theatrical family, he was the youngest of three brothers, his elder brothers being Barry and Stanley. He was the uncle of film actress and director Ida Lupino, as well as the cousin of the equally hugely successful stage star and film comedian Lupino Lane. He married the actress Mildred [Gordon] Coles. Other films include the sketch shorts of 'The Toy Shop' and 'The Coffee Stall' (c.1927/8) taken from his stage work in variety theatre. Whilst serving in the First World War, he was gassed. He died in 1930 at the age of 41 after a brain operation, possibly connected to the effects of being gassed. His death was announced in newspapers across the country, showing his popularity at the time as a comedy stage star and film performer.
